Peter Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has clarified that he never stated he would accept a vice-presidential role in the 2027 election, following reports that misrepresented his remarks during a recent interview.
In a statement, Obi emphasized that his words had been taken out of context by those he referred to as “fifth columnists.”
Obi reiterated that his primary focus is on addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges such as poverty, insecurity, and education, rather than positioning for 2027.
He affirmed his commitment to the Labour Party and stated his openness to collaborating with others who share his vision for the country, provided their goals are not centered on “state capture.”
He emphasized that his intention is to contribute to Nigeria’s progress without being desperate for any position.
According to him, if he chooses to run for office in the future, it will be in alignment with those committed to building a new Nigeria, and not simply to win elections.
