Senate President Godswill Akpabio has attributed the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Edo State governorship election to the confidence Nigerians have in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
Akpabio made this claim on Sunday, following the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that APC’s Monday Okpebholo won the election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Okpebholo secured victory in 11 local government areas, while Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in 7, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata did not win any.
“I strongly believe that the election in Edo, though tense at the beginning, is a reflection of the confidence that Nigerians continue to express in President Tinubu,” Akpabio remarked after the results were announced.
The INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, confirmed that Okpebholo received 291,667 votes, defeating Ighodalo with 247,274 votes and Akpata, who garnered 18,737 votes.
