The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested activist and politician Omoyele Sowore upon his return to Nigeria.
Fellow activist Deji Adeyanju confirmed the arrest, stating that Sowore was detained for calling for a protest against bad governance. Sowore’s arrest has also been reported by Sahara Reporters.
Before his arrest, Sowore had shared on his verified Facebook page that Nigerian security forces were trying to track him down in his hometown in Ondo State, alleging that they were plotting to frame him for false offenses.
He expressed his defiance, stating, “Babylon must fall!” and emphasizing his determination to remain fearless.
Sowore, a former presidential candidate and well-known activist, has previously faced legal and political challenges due to his vocal opposition to the government.
However, the latest from Sowore revealed he was briefly detained at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
“I had just arrived in Nigeria from the USA to the MMIA in Lagos; upon reaching Nigerian Immigration, my passport was seized, and they told me they had orders to detain me,” he said.
“This is not un expected because i have always known that It is part of the broader clampdown by the fascist @officialAbat regime on dissent and their fear of the upcoming #FearlessINOctober revolt.
“In case this becomes another prolonged and protracted detention, I urge our citizens to ensure they ALL stop tyranny by all means acceptable and necessary, by engaging in the planned series of direct actions slated for October 1st and beyond.
“I have just been released by the Nigerian Immigration after a brief detention and my passport released back to me.”
