Court summons Ex-Governor Bello

Yahaya Bello, Fmr. Governor of Kogi state

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has summoned Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, over allegations of criminal breach of trust and possession of unlawfully acquired property.

This comes after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) earlier declared Bello wanted on charges of money laundering.

The summons, issued by Justice Maryann E. Anenih on October 3, 2024, alleges that Bello committed these offences between 2016 and 2023.

According to the document, the former governor is accused of violating Section 311 of the Penal Code Law, Cap. 89 Laws of Northern Nigeria 1963, which pertains to criminal breach of trust and is punishable under Section 312. Additionally, Bello faces charges under Section 319A for allegedly possessing property believed to have been unlawfully acquired.

The EFCC publicized the summons through its official X handle, further amplifying the charges brought against Bello.
