Osun State Governor, Ademola Adélékè, has urged residents to stay away from local government secretariats due to escalating tensions and potential violence.
This comes after supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clashed over control of the secretariats, leading to chaos and sporadic gunshots in several areas, including Osogbo and Olorunda.
Adélékè passed the order across in a statement signed by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the State Governor.
“I therefore direct all law abiding Osun residents to stay away from the council secretariats especially as they are expected to be under lock and key.
“I equally condole families of victims of the APC illegal takeover bid and chaos unleashed across the state by the APC and their hired thugs. PDP lost five members with several others wounded. Two of those members are from Iragbiji, Boripe local government. Another two were killed at Ola Oluwa Local government. Another one was lost at Ikire. We must stop the bloodshed”, the Governor lamented.
Governor Adélékè raised the alarm over an alleged plot by his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, to forcefully reinstate sacked council chairmen, which has further fueled the unrest. Security operatives have been deployed to maintain order, but residents are advised to avoid the areas for their safety.
