APC’s Monday Okpebholo is Edo Governor-Elect

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

APC candidate Monday Okpebholo was announced as the victor by the Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna. Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes. Labour Party candidate Olumide Akpata finished third with 22,763 votes.

The APC claimed victory in 11 local government areas, while the PDP won in seven. The APC dominated in Edo North, winning all six local governments, and also took two out of five in Edo Central. In Edo South, the APC won three out of seven local governments.

Okpebholo’s APC triumphed in Esan Central and Esan West, including his home local government, while Ighodalo’s PDP won in Esan North East, Igueben, and Esan South East.

In Edo South, the APC secured victories in Egor, Oredo, and Orhionmwon, while the PDP claimed Uhunmwonde, Ovia North East, Ovia South West, and Ikpoba Okha, home of PDP deputy governorship candidate Osarodion Ogie.
