Akwa-Ibom Gov’s Daughter takes on First Lady role

Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has appointed his daughter, Helen Eno-Obareki, as the Acting First Lady following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Eno.

The announcement came during a condolence visit by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and other dignitaries in Uyo.

Governor Eno stated that his daughter would take over the responsibilities of the First Lady to ensure the continuation of the office’s functions, particularly the initiatives started by his late wife, such as the Golden Initiative For All. Helen will work closely with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare to maintain these projects.

The governor expressed confidence in his daughter’s ability to uphold her mother’s legacy, describing his late wife as both his “greatest supporter and toughest critic.” He emphasized his commitment to sustaining her vision through the First Lady’s office.

In response, Mrs. Tinubu praised the governor’s decision, expressing faith in Obareki’s capabilities and encouraging her to excel in her new role. She assured the family of her support and highlighted the importance of continuing Pastor Patience Eno’s legacy.

Governor Eno also humorously addressed rumors of him remarrying, dismissing the idea during a visit by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, saying he had no plans to take a second wife.
