Aiyedatiwa pardons 43 Inmates on Inauguration Day

Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Governor of Ondo State

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has pardoned 43 inmates as part of the activities commemorating his inauguration.

The pardon, which reflects the governor’s commitment to reformative justice and humane governance, was based on the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, chaired by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, announced that eight of the pardoned inmates have been granted immediate freedom.

Additionally, 15 inmates who were on death row had their sentences commuted to various prison terms, while the remaining 20 had their sentences adjusted to more lenient terms.

Governor Aiyedatiwa’s decision underscores his belief in second chances and the potential for rehabilitation.

This move aligns with his ongoing efforts to address issues within the penal system and promote the reintegration of individuals into society as productive members.
