Absence, Late Arrival of Electoral Officials dominates Oyo LG election

In what was anticipated to be a pivotal moment for democracy in Oyo State, the local government elections have been marred by significant irregularities.

The election is the first to hold in the state since the previous was held in 2018, under the past administration of Late Senator Abiola Ajimobi.

News from various polling stations, including Ward 9 and 3 of Ibadan North LG, visited by our reporter, as well as the town of Okeho, reveal a concerning absence of electoral officials and essential voting equipment.

The absence of electoral officials and equipment has left voters frustrated, raising questions about the integrity of the electoral process.

In Ward 9 and 3 of Ibadan North LG, voters were left waiting for hours, only to find empty polling stations devoid of any electoral personnel or materials.

Similarly, in the town of Okeho, voters were met with the same disappointment, as polling stations remained unmanned and devoid of voting equipment. This lack of preparedness has cast a shadow over the credibility of the elections and undermined public trust in the electoral process.

However, as at the time of filing this report, a party official at Ward 9 of Ibadan North LG, who refused to reveal his identity, disclosed that they have received information and the Electoral Officials are on their way.
