The report on the general elections of 2023 has been made public by the Independent National Electoral Commission. This was revealed in a statement released on Friday by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
Olumekun, however, stated that during the commission’s weekly meeting on Thursday, the election report was examined and given the all-clear to be published.
He pointed out that the release was carried out in accordance with the commission’s dedication to transparency and the customs of the previous four election cycles. In his words, the “in-depth analysis of the election’s key processes, achievements, and challenges, along with valuable lessons learned, was provided by this comprehensive 526-page document, structured into 13 chapters and enhanced with 60 tables, 14 boxes, and 10 graphs.”
The national commissioner provided additional context by saying, “The report demonstrates significant democratic progress by showcasing the election’s unparalleled diversity in party representation.” In addition, it clarifies the technical difficulties encountered during the upload of polling unit results for the presidential election and addresses public concerns regarding the INEC Result Viewing portal.
He noted that among topics included in the study are the electoral framework, staff hiring and training, security plans, logistics, and inclusion initiatives. He also stated, that the panel will be open to suggestions for future electoral enhancements and changes.
“This election demonstrated a significant shift in political representation throughout Nigeria, with four political parties winning contests for governor, seven winning senatorial seats, eight winning federal constituencies, and nine winning state legislature seats.
The study emphasizes how important it is for technology to improve electoral integrity and lower fraud, especially with regard to the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and it clarifies the technical difficulties encountered during the upload of polling unit results for the presidential election and addresses public concerns regarding the INEC Result Viewing portal.”
