What Happened at Olúbàdàn’s Traditional Coronation?

It was revealed that the calabash containing money was opened by the Olubadan, Oba Akinloyè Owólabí Olàkúlẹ́hìn – Ìgè Olàkúlẹ́hìn I, during his traditional coronation.

It signifies prosperity, rapid economic growth and peace for the people of Ìbàdàn.

An Olubadan-designate is traditionally required to open one out of three calabashes, which symbolizes what the people should expect during his reign.

The traditional rites, preceding the crowning at the Osemeji shrine, also necessitate the new paramount traditional ruler to prostrate before the people as a mark of service, stewardship, and commitment. After this act, he would never prostrate before any mortal being again.

The coronation rites at the Oluwo Afobaje Labosinde compound included Oba Olakulehin being decorated with traditional Akoko leaves (ewe akoko).

This ceremony was attended by prominent figures such as the Ọ̀tún Olúbàdàn of Ìbàdànland, Senator Ràshídì Adéwọ̀lú Ládọjà, the Ẹ̀kaarun Olúbàdàn, Oba Adébáyọ̀ Àkàndé, former President of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief Báyọ̀ Oyèró, and former Minister of Trade, Chief Oníkẹ́pọ̀ Àkàndé.
