Tinubu orders evacuation of flooded Borno communities

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the devastating floods in Maiduguri, Borno State, and has called for the immediate evacuation of residents from the affected communities.

The President directed government agencies to expedite rescue efforts as the situation worsens, impacting thousands of residents and government facilities, including a post office, the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and even a cemetery and zoo.

In a statement by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu extended his condolences to the affected families and pledged federal support.

He highlighted the disaster triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam, stating that the Federal Government is ready to collaborate with Borno State to meet the immediate humanitarian needs.

Tinubu has also instructed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assist flood victims and promised to mobilize federal resources to alleviate the crisis.

Earlier, it was reported that the Palace of Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Garbai Elkenemi, and other parts of Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital, were heavily flooded.
