Tinubu bans homosexuality, cross-dressing in Nigerian Military

Bola Ahmed Tinubu - GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria

President (Asíwájú) Bọ́lá Ahmed Tinúbú – GCFR has approved a ban on homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, and cross-dressing among personnel of the Nigerian Military, as these behaviors are considered contrary to the ethics of the armed forces.

Military personnel have also been warned against body piercing, tattooing, disorderly behavior, and drunkenness on or off duty.

This directive is detailed in Section 26 of the revised Harmonised Armed Forces Terms and Conditions of Service, signed by President Tinubu on December 16, 2024. The document specifies that officers must not engage in homosexuality, lesbianism, or bestiality, nor should they participate in activities of the LGBTQIA2S+ community or cross-dress, among other behaviors.

Additionally, officers are prohibited from engaging in amorous relationships with subordinates or their spouses.

Interestingly, the document does not outline any specific punishments or disciplinary measures for those who violate these rules.
