SAN was paid ₦5m upfront – Bobrisky

In a recently released voice note, controversial cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, claimed to have paid ₦5 million upfront to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to secure a Federal Government pardon for money laundering charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bobrisky revealed that the SAN initially requested N10 million, but he was unable to raise the full amount as his account had been frozen by the EFCC. This revelation was made in a video posted by popular social media influencer, Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, on Monday, October 7, 2024. The call recording, however, was made on May 16, 2024, according to VDM.

Bobrisky disclosed that his godfather came to his aid by contributing the initial N5 million.

However, he refrained from asking for additional financial assistance as his godfather had already secured him a well-furnished apartment close to the prison.

Addressing the widespread belief that he was in prison, Bobrisky clarified, “Truth be told, I’m not in prison, but I’m around there. My godfather made sure I didn’t go to prison. The world can think otherwise, but that’s the reality.”

He further explained that his godfather had spoken with the Deputy Controller of Nigeria’s Correctional Service, allowing him to stay near the facility, provided he refrained from posting or making public statements.

Bobrisky also revealed efforts to expedite his release through a pardon. “I’m supposed to finish my sentence by July, but with the pardon request submitted by the SAN, I could leave as early as next month.” He noted that his godfather had contributed ₦5 million towards the SAN’s fee of N10 million, and the pardon application had already been submitted.

Additionally, Bobrisky disclosed that his godfather arranged his living situation with the assistance of the Deputy Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, who was concerned about the potential risk of harassment if he were placed in a male facility. Hence, they secured a nearby residence for him under the condition that he remain discreet.

This voice note follows a prior claim by Bobrisky that EFCC officials had demanded and received ₦15 million to drop the money laundering charges against him. He also alleged that human rights lawyer Femi Falana sought a presidential pardon in exchange for ₦10 million.
