The Department of State Security (DSS) has sent a warning to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to postpone their planned nationwide protest over the high cost of living in the nation. The NLC has called this advise “unsolicited” and stated that they will not be forgiven by history if they reverse course.
The NLC president, Comrade Joe Ajaero, made this information available to Pressmen on Wednesday. He stated that the NLC and its allies were concerned about the DSS’s “unsolicited advice,” accusing it of serving as the “chief spokesperson of the government” and attempting to deceive and blackmail the upcoming protestors.
Despite the “unprecedented high cost of living in spite of the indescribable suffering in the land, spiralling inflation, deepening poverty, and the Naira at an exchange rate of N1,900 to the US Dollar,” he said, the NLC had a history of nonviolent protests and had no intention of causing any violence or disruption.
The top labor leader went on to say that the DSS’s assertion that the government was trying to improve the economic situation was unconvincing because Nigerian workers had not yet seen any tangible action or solutions from the authorities about the suffering they were currently experiencing.
The Labour Centre also questioned why, according to the Secret Service, the DSS had not detained the “elements” who were reportedly going to take advantage of the rally to incite violence and chaos.
NLC went on to say that the demonstrators were devoted patriots who would never jeopardize the security or sovereignty of their nation.
