Police officers, on Thursday, assaulted and injured a reporter of a a Nigerian news outlet, PREMIUM TIMES, covering the #EndbadGovernance protest in Abuja.
The protest turned chaotic after police fired teargas at the demonstrators.
Yakubu Mohammed, the reporter, was struck with gun butts and batons by police officers, resulting in head injuries.
He was then arrested and briefly detained in a police van near the Head of Service Building in the Secretariat area of Abuja.
Despite wearing a press vest and presenting his identity card, Mr. Mohammed was told by the officers that they were not concerned about his ID, mentioning that they had even arrested a National Union of Journalists chairman earlier.
He relayed this information to his editors shortly after his release.
