Economic activities in the historical city of Ìbàdàn, the Oyo State capital, were largely disrupted on Thursday due to nationwide protests against hunger and the scarcity of essential commodities.
The protests began Thursday morning in various locations across Ibadan, organized by multiple groups and organizations.
Demonstrations started in front of the University of Ibadan, at Iwo Road, Mokola roundabout, and Dugbe.
Major parts of the city saw commercial banks, petrol stations, shopping malls, markets, shops, schools, government establishments, and other public infrastructure closed.
Traders at the spare parts market in Araromi Gate warned their colleagues not to open their shops.
Similar closures were reported at Bodija and other markets in the city.
