The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended two officers from the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre in Lagos following allegations related to Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
Bobrisky had claimed that his godfather and the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment after his conviction in April for abusing naira notes.
According to a memo signed by board secretary Ja’afaru Ahmed, the suspended officers are Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Kirikiri Centre, and Sikiru Adekunle, also in charge at the same facility.
Additionally, Ogbule Obinna, an officer at the Afikpo MSCC in Ebonyi State, was suspended for allegedly escorting an inmate outside the facility. Another officer, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, serving at the Kuje MSCC in Abuja, was suspended for reportedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate.
The suspensions are intended to allow a thorough investigation into these allegations.
