Police reveals Investigative Journalist’s whereabouts

Nigeria's Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun

Officials from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) have apprehended Bristol Tamunobiefiri, popularly known as PIDOM, on August 5, 2024, in his hotel room in Rivers State.

This arrest follows accusations of his involvement in several criminal activities, including the unlawful possession and leakage of classified documents, as well as cyber-related offences.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, PIDOM’s actions are considered serious offences that compromise the integrity of government operations.

Adejobi emphasized that the police would conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, ensuring that no aspect of the law is neglected.

This arrest was confirmed after investigative journalist David Hundeyin disclosed that PIDOM, known for tweeting as @PIDOMNIGERIA under the pseudonym 99% Oppressed on X.com, is in police custody and is set to appear in court next week. Hundeyin had earlier raised alarm over PIDOM’s disappearance, suspecting government involvement, which led to widespread concern on social media.

Following PIDOM’s arrest, online users rallied together, launching a campaign on X.com with hashtags like #FreePidom, #WhereisPidom, and #PIDOM, demanding his release and information on his whereabouts.

The police have assured the public that proper legal procedures will follow, with more details to emerge as investigations continue.
