Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, founder of Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church (SPAC Nation), has voiced his disagreement with recent comments made by Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the United Kingdom’s opposition, regarding Nigeria.
Badenoch, who has been vocal about her experiences in Nigeria, recently described an encounter with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as unforgettable, alleging that officers stole her brother’s watch and shoe.
Badenoch’s remarks have sparked criticism from several Nigerians, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who rebuked her for her negative comments about Nigeria.
In an interview with Channels Television, Pastor Adegboyega countered Badenoch’s statements, asserting that the situation in Nigeria is not as dire as she portrayed.
He said, “I completely disagree with her statement. In 2023, 2024, 78,000 bags were snatched. 78,000 phones snatched in the UK in London. So I disagree with the statement.”
Adegboyega highlighted the strong Nigerian black community in the UK, noting their contributions and struggles.
He added, “There is a very strong Nigerian black community in the UK. People who have been fighting for people like the leader of the opposition that you just mentioned to get to that position.”
He also pointed out the challenges faced by black communities in the UK, stating, “We know what’s going on. Do you know that prisons have more black young people than schools in the UK? So there are more young black people in prisons in the UK, in most mental hospitals we have more young black people than in schools.”
Adegboyega concluded by acknowledging Nigeria’s issues but firmly disagreed with Badenoch’s portrayal, saying, “So yes, our country has its own issues, but it’s definitely not true what the leader of the opposition is saying.”
