The Oyo State Government has dismissed media reports claiming that the Olúbàdàn of Ìbàdàn, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away.
Several media outlets, not NewsVEO, on Monday night, reported that the revered monarch had died at the age of 89.
However, the Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun, refuted the claims, assuring the public that the Olúbàdàn is alive and in good health.
Key Details:
- Official Statements: Wasiu Olatunbosun confirmed that the Olúbàdàn is hale and hearty. He mentioned speaking with one of the monarch’s sons, Prince Olaseke Owolabi Olakulehin, who represented the family at the coronation committee.
- Chief Press Secretary’s Assurance: Gbenga Ayoade, the Chief Press Secretary to the Olúbàdàn, also dismissed the rumors, affirming that the monarch is in good health. He stated that when he left the palace around 8 p.m., everything was normal, and there was no crisis.
- Clarification on Medical Treatment: Ayoade further debunked speculations that the monarch had been flown out of Ìbàdàn for medical treatment, stating that the Olúbàdàn is still in Ìbàdàn and doing very fine.
Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who received his staff of office from Governor Seyi Makinde on July 12, 2024, is set to celebrate his 90th birthday on July 5.
This development reassures the public about the well-being of the Olúbàdàn and dispels any unfounded rumors.
