Organizers responsible for Stampedes – Tinúbú

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria

President (Asíwájú) Bọ́lá Ahmed Tinúbú – GCFR has held event organizers responsible for the fatal stampedes that occurred during the distribution of food palliatives and relief materials in Ìbàdàn, Okija, and Abuja.

The tragic incidents, which took place last week, resulted in the deaths of over 70 people, including children, as crowds scrambled for food items.

During a Presidential Media Chat on Monday, President Tinúbú described the events as a critical failure in planning and execution.

He stated, “I see this as a very grave error on the part of the organizers. Condolences to those who lost a family member, but it is good to give. I have been giving out food stuff, commodities, etc. in Bourdillon.

“I am an organized person and that’s why I have been giving people food for the past 25 years and no incident has happened. Let this tragedy not affect us.”

The President emphasized the need for a more organized and effective food distribution mechanism, noting that the organizers had good intentions but failed to manage the situation properly.

He added, “If you know you don’t have enough to give, do not attempt to publicize it. Every society has its share of angry people. There are food banks, but unfortunately, the stampedes occurred. It is a very grave error on the part of the organizers.”

The stampedes in Ìbàdàn, Okija, and Abuja have sparked widespread criticism and calls for better management of relief efforts. President Tinúbú’s administration is now under pressure to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
