Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested a man who climbed a 33KV high tension electricity pole in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area, demanding the resignation of President Bola Tinubu.
The man, whose name has not been disclosed, remained on the pole from Friday, September 27 until Saturday, September 28, insisting that Tinubu must step down before he would descend.
According to the Adamawa Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguruje, the man was rescued on Saturday night and taken into custody in Yola, the state capital. Nguruje stated that the individual would be paraded for attempting suicide, a criminal offense under Nigerian law, and would face prosecution.
Nguruje emphasized the police’s responsibility to protect lives and property, noting that attempting suicide is a punishable offense.
The incident, which occurred on a busy market day, attracted attention as the man climbed the high tension pole along the Yola-Jalingo highway, creating a tense situation before his eventual rescue.
