Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has vowed to ensure that those responsible for the tragic stampede at the children’s funfair in Ibadan on December 18, 2024, will face trial, regardless of their social status.
The incident claimed the lives of 35 children at Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan.
During an address at the 2025 Annual Interfaith Service for state workers, Governor Makinde emphasized that justice must be served and that the rule of law will prevail in Oyo State.
He stated, “Even if nobody is held accountable elsewhere, in Oyo State, the rule of law will prevail.”
The governor also mentioned that while he is not opposed to the court granting bail to the suspects, the judicial process must take its course.
He reassured the public that accountability is essential for delivering justice to the victims and their families.
