Makinde inaugurates Bodija Explosion Relief Fund Committee

Governor Sèyí Mákindé of Ọ̀yọ́ State

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, inaugurated a committee on the management and disbursement of the Bodija Explosion Relief Fund.

The explosion, which rocked Dejo Oyelese Street, Bodija Ibadan, on January 16, 2024, claimed many lives and left many others seriously injured.

During the inauguration at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, Makinde emphasized the importance of transparency in the committee’s responsibilities to those affected by the incident.

He also announced plans to fix the road to Dejo Oyelese Street and erect a monument at the explosion site.

Makinde stated that the government’s support is aimed at helping those affected, not as compensation, and highlighted his administration’s commitment to doing the right thing for the people of Oyo State.

He appreciated the various professional bodies that supported the state during the incident and urged them to work efficiently with the committee.

The inauguration was attended by several dignitaries, including former Deputy Governor Hamid Gbadamosi, wife of former Governor Mutiat Ladoja, former Speaker of the State House of Assembly Monsurat Sumonu, Chief of Staff Segun Ogunwuyi, Head of Service Olubunmi Oni, Commissioners, and Senior Executive Assistant to the Governor on General Duties Bayo Lawal.

Also present were Special Adviser on Security CP Fatai Owoseni (retd), PDP Secretary Wasiu Adeleke, co-chairman of the State Elders’ Council Wole Oyelese, and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments in the state Sikiru Sanda.
