The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion for emergency repairs on Eko Bridge, set to begin on Monday, September 16, 2024, and expected to last 8 weeks.
The repairs, conducted by the Federal Ministry of Works, will be done in four phases, involving both full and partial closures of the bridge, depending on the work schedule.
In a statement issued on Friday, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, provided alternative routes to ease traffic congestion during the repair period:
- Motorists heading to the island from Funsho Williams Avenue can use the service lane at Alaka to connect Costain and access Eko Bridge.
- Another option is to connect Costain to reach Eko Bridge and continue towards Apongbon.
- Those leaving Apongbon can head inwards Eko Bridge and link Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue.
- Motorists can also use Costain to connect Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue, or go through Apapa Road from Costain to link Oyingbo, then head to Adekunle to access Third Mainland Bridge.
- For motorists heading to Surulere, Costain to Breweries inwards Abebe Village can connect to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas.
The commissioner assured the public that Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers will be deployed to the rehabilitation areas and alternative routes to reduce delays and inconvenience for motorists.
News VEO reported that the FG, in Lagos State, would begin conversion of vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) under the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).
