Awwalu Salisu, a 23-year-old commercial tricyclist from Kano who returned N15 million in cash left on his tricycle by a Chadian businessman in 2023, has been granted a scholarship worth N250 million to study up to the PhD level. This appears to be a competitive gesture.
Because of his uncommon act of honesty, Awwalu was honored by LEADERSHIP Media Group on Tuesday at its annual conference and awards ceremony as the recipient of their “Outstanding Young Person of the Year 2023” Award.
Peter Obi, a fellow recipient and Labour Party (LP) presidential contender, was the first to grant Awwalu scholarships at the PhD level at Abuja’s Baze University. He was recognized as the 2023 LEADERSHIP Politician of the Year.
The first person to provide Awwalu scholarships at the PhD level at Abuja’s Baze University is Peter Obi, a fellow awardee and the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential contender. Obi was recognized as the LEADERSHIP Politician of the Year 2023.
According to him, each Awwalu will receive a N50 million scholarship from the Niger State government, President Bola Tinubu, his ministers, the APC Governors Forum, and himself.
Bago continued by saying he would give the Kano Keke rider’s name to one of the road projects he was working on in Niger State.
