Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has helped Zainab Jummai Ado Bayero, a daughter of the late Emir of Kano, along with her brother and mother, who were facing eviction from their residence in Lagos.
In a statement, the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature, said he arrived in Lagos early on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, to discuss with the apartment’s General Manager, Mr. Sunel Kumar, who had planned to remove them today.
Bature stated that the governor stepped in after Princess Zainab Bayero’s appeal in the newspapers on behalf of her mother and brother, who were allegedly abandoned by the royal family following the death of Ado Bayero.
Zainab, her brother, and her mother have reportedly been struggling since the passing of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

The statement mentioned that the princess, her mother, and her brother expressed their gratitude to the Kano governor’s representative for the support.
“You came at the right time, we were about to be forcefully evicted from the facility for our inability to pay the rent, they said today is final, we must move out by 3:00 pm and you came just fifteen minutes to the time, they have already mobilised youths to remove us out of the apartment, Alhamdulillah for your arrival,” Zainab reportedly stated.
On his own part, Bature stated that the governor’s humanitarian intervention was “due to the fact that many citizens of Kano feel that the matter did not portray the royal family and Kano in good light”.
“They are not only members of the Royal Family, they are our Muslim sisters and brother, currently in need,” Bature said.
