Yoruba sovereignty advocate Chief Sunday Adeyemo, famously called Sunday Igboho, and the head of the Ilana Omo Oodua movement, Professor Banji Akintoye, on Saturday, disassociated themselves from certain suspected gunmen who stormed the Oyo State government secretariat, Agodi Ibadan, posing as representatives of the Yoruba nation movement.
Earlier today, it was reported that thugs, clad in military-style clothing and purportedly armed with pump-action rifles and other weaponry, raided the premises of the Oyo State House of Assembly in the morning and tried to raise the Yoruba nation flag.
Adeyemo, in a press release sent to reporters, distanced himself and his group from the occurrence, urging the state governor, Seyi Makinde, to probe the event and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
He condemned the gunmen for their unlawful and senseless acts, stating, “Governor Seyi Makinde should carry out a thorough investigation to ascertain the motive of the invasion, and the people behind it should be arrested and prosecuted.”
He further advised security agencies “to ensure a thorough investigation into the attack and diligently prosecute the sponsors and criminal elements behind its execution.”
In the same vein, Professor Banji Akintoye, the head of Ilana Omo Oodua, condemned the violent intrusion into the Oyo State government secretariat, labeling it as nonsensical and barbaric.
He stressed that the Yoruba nation movement he advocates for has been peaceful, and the violent occurrence was unrelated to their quest for self-determination.
Akintoye, however , blamed a faction of the Yoruba nation movement of orchestrating the gunmen’s attack on the Oyo State government secretariat.
Meanwhile, three of the agitators were eliminated when they engaged in a gun duel with security operatives.
