“I pleaded with him to include me,” Osita Chidoka recalls final exchange with Wigwe

Herbert Wigwe, Late CEO of Access Holdings

Herbert Wigwe, the late CEO of Access Holdings, had a final conversation with Osita Chidoka, a former minister of aviation.

On Sunday, Chidoka posted a remembrance to the late Wigwe on his official X account.

The former minister claimed that he asked Wigwe to accompany him on this specific trip to the USA, but Wigwe mockingly declined his request.

Remember that on Friday, a helicopter crash claimed the lives of Wigwe, the co-founder of Wigwe University and Access Bank, as well as his wife Chizoba, son and Abimbola Ogunbanjo.

The helicopter crashed on Friday night close to a border community between Nevada and California, reportedly on its way to Las Vegas.

The US government claims that every passenger on board perished in the collision.

Speaking about his most recent conversation with Wigwe, he posted on his X handle, “We had an appointment for last Thursday. ‘Osita, I will fly into Abuja with the VC on Thursday; after our meeting, I will leave for the US,’ I said. ‘Herbert, wetin they pursue you, you travel a lot these days, biko take me along.’ He laughed and said, ‘Osita, you can’t keep up with my pace. Just enjoy your peace.

“We laughed and said goodbyes. It was the last goodbye. He couldn’t make it on Thursday.

“Since I left public office, he has been a strong supporter and friend. His wife Chizoba was at my wedding 22 years ago.

“His son looked up to me as his parents literally handed him over to me for mentorship.

“I am alone in the dark, wondering, is that it? Should we remain fearless? Somebody should tell me something.”
