A group of women in the Akoko area of Ondo State staged a peaceful protest to condemn the increasing violence and security threats posed by suspected herdsmen.
The women, many of whom were elderly, expressed their distress over the frequent killings, kidnappings, and destruction of their farmlands.
The protest was triggered by the brutal murder of a farmer, Sunday Ayeni, who was killed on his land after a disagreement with herdsmen.
The women, during a security meeting at the palace of the Olubaka of Oka, Adebori Adeleye, demanded justice for the victims and shared their harrowing experiences, including allegations of rape and destruction of their crops by the herdsmen.
They emphasized that they had abandoned their farms due to fear of further attacks and would not return until adequate security measures were in place.
The traditional ruler, Mr. Adeleye, acknowledged the gravity of the situation and assured the women that security agencies were working to address the issues in the community.
