The Palace of Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Garbai Elkenemi, and other parts of Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital, were heavily flooded.
Reports indicate that the Shehu has taken refuge at the Government House due to the severity of the flooding.
Residents from affected areas, including Lagos Street, Modugari, Post Office, and Gwange, are struggling to save their properties and ensure their safety.
Usman Babagana, a local, mentioned that while there were early warnings about the flood, many residents didn’t take them seriously due to a lack of alternative accommodations.
Buba Jibril, a pedestrian caught in the flood near the Post Office, described the situation as the worst he has experienced in Maiduguri, expressing concerns about potential hardships to come.
