Air Passenger has been assured by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority(NCAA) of lowering airfares in few days.
Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of NCAA, has revealed the expected drop owing to the agency’s interactions with all airlines and other relevant stakeholders as well as the payment of the airlines delayed funds.
“The agency under the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo and Capt. Chris Najomo, the Director General of NCAA will do all possible best to bring down the airfares prices, he said.
“Globally, airfares are not regulated but the government can fit in to the airlines to meet a reasonable fare which is the essence of NCAA being under the control of Capt. Chris Najomo based on the minister instruction to show concern for consumer protection.
“A committee has been set up by NCAA to negotiate in reducing the fares which majority has been contacted. This is a joint effort of Federal Competition, NCAA and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA), and other stakeholders.
“As we keep involving all important stakeholder, there are factors to look out which are clearance of the detained fund, ease of doing business the competition between the local and foreign airlines will determine the further drop in the ticket prices,” he said.
