Former Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) has called on Nigeria’s service chiefs to decisively address the ongoing banditry and return the country to peace.
Speaking at a book launch in Abuja for “Big Boots: Lessons from my military service” by retired Major-General Solomon Udounwa, Danjuma criticized the current state of insecurity and insisted that there are “no excuses” for the continued violence and abductions.
Danjuma, who was the chairman of the event, emphasized the urgent need for action to end the “pandemic” of violence in Nigeria. He praised the author for his dedication and military career.
In response, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa assured that the armed forces are committed to restoring peace and security.
Musa acknowledged the challenges ahead but promised that the military would uphold its values and not fail in its mission.
Udounwa, the author, shared that his motivation for writing the book was to preserve his experiences and lessons for younger military officers. He hopes his book will serve as a resource for serving personnel, historians, and the general public, and help future officers understand the virtues required for military service.
The book’s title, “Big Boots,” reflects his military footwear and his personal experiences overcoming challenges both in school and in service.
