A Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an order restraining the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) from arresting vehicles with faded number plates.
The court also prohibited the FRSC from imposing any fines or punishments on drivers for driving with faded number plates. This decision was made by Justice Akintayo Aluko while delivering judgment in a suit filed by Chinwike Chamberlain Ezebube against the FRSC.
The applicant, Ezebube, had asked the court to determine whether the FRSC, as the sole designer and producer of vehicle number plates in Nigeria, is responsible for the quality and durability of the plates.
The court ruled in favor of the applicant, ordering the FRSC to replace faded number plates at no extra cost to the vehicle owners.
This ruling is a significant victory for vehicle owners who have been penalized for driving with faded number plates due to poor quality production by the FRSC.
