The Magistrate Court in Ilesa, Osun State, has ordered Rhoda Adu to pay ₦150,000 in damages for failing to visit her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, after receiving ₦3,000 for transportation.
Ms. Rhoda switched off her phone and failed to show up, leading Mr. Olapitan to feel defrauded and emotionally distressed. He reported the incident to the Ayeso Police Station.
Evidence, including the ₦3,000 transfer and WhatsApp messages, was submitted in court.
Magistrate Akogun Oludare ruled that Ms. Adu must refund the ₦3,000, pay ₦100,000 for breaching their agreement, and an additional ₦50,000 for causing Mr. Olapitan emotional distress.
The court emphasized that this ruling aims to deter similar offenses in the future.
