The Federal Government has pledged to hold accountable all individuals implicated in the bribery allegations involving Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this commitment during a press briefing marking his first year in office. He assured that no one involved in the corruption scandal within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) will escape justice.
This follows the minister’s earlier directive for a thorough investigation into claims that Bobrisky, sentenced to prison earlier this year, did not serve his jail term within a correctional facility.
In response to the allegations, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board recently suspended several senior correctional officers. These include Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, both Deputy Controllers of Corrections at Kiri-kiri in Lagos, along with other officials involved in separate misconduct cases.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo reassured Nigerians that the investigation is ongoing and emphasized that all those found guilty, regardless of rank or status, will face consequences.
He highlighted that the probe extends beyond Bobrisky’s case and involves broader issues of corruption within the correctional system. The minister also expressed confidence in the integrity of the investigation committee.
