Ajuzieogu MacElvis Ugochukwu, an airport employee, was found guilty by Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa of the Federal High Court in Lagos of trying to smuggle tramadol into a bottle of dietary supplements that was meant to be carried by a traveler headed for Ghana.
The owner of the illegal drug, Okosun Paul Punnit, and Ugochukwu, an employee of Pathfinder International Ltd., an airport security service provider, were both given one-year prison sentences.
Following their guilty pleas to charges of conspiracy and illegal drug exportation presented by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Justice Lewis-Allagoa rendered the verdict.
Recall that on January 16, 2024, a video of the confrontation between the passenger and Ugochukwu went viral due to the watchful passenger’s suspicion that the shipment included illegal drugs.
The convicted individuals appeared in court to answer to four counts of conspiracy and illegal exportation of 17 grams of Tramadol 225 mg, a drug that is comparable to heroin.
The court was told by the prosecutor, Augustine Nwagu, that the guilty people had committed the offenses on January 14, 2024, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos.
