Asaba gets new Monarch, bans palace gossip

His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof) Epiphany Azinge, SAN, Asagba of Asaba

The newly crowned Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof) Epiphany Azinge, SAN, has firmly declared that while he welcomes advice and constructive criticism, he will not tolerate palace gossip in any form.

The monarch made this clear during his coronation ceremony on Saturday, where the Ochendo Asagba (Regent), Engr. Louis Edozien, transferred the staff of office, symbolizing leadership, through the Onihe of Asaba, Chief Ubaka Atu.

Obi Azinge paid homage to his predecessor, the late Asagba, Obi Prof. Chike Edozien, acknowledging the unmatched vision and foundation laid by the former leader. He vowed to continue building on this legacy and called for unity among those who contested the throne, urging them to join forces for the development of Asaba.

“There is no contest without its challenges, but I urge my fellow contestants to join hands with me in moving Asaba forward,” he said, extending an olive branch.

The monarch also promised to use his local and international connections to propel Asaba’s growth, pledging to restore its historical prominence in Nigeria.

Obi Azinge emphasized his dedication to the people of Asaba, promising not to betray the trust placed in him when he was elected on August 18, 2024, and reiterated his vision for the continued progress of the ancient city.
