Army releases Soyombo

The Nigerian Army has released investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo after detaining him for three days.

Soyombo, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), was arrested at an illegal oil bunkering site in Port Harcourt.

The Army had claimed that Soyombo was involved in illegal activities, but FIJ and other supporters argued that he was merely performing his duties as a journalist.

Following an intense media campaign with the hashtag #FreeFisayoNow, the Army decided to release Soyombo.

FIJ has confirmed his release and expressed concerns about his safety, considering the information he provided to the Army during his detention.
