The Nigerian Army has refuted claims of being involved in the Kano State emirate dispute.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, stated on Sunday that the Army was not involved in the conflict and its members were not engaged in implementing any court ruling.
“They have only taken proactive steps to checkmate any possible breakdown or breach of the security that may be occasioned by the Kano Emirship tussle,” he said.
“The issue of paramount concern to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies is the prevention of the breakdown of law and order in the state, which could be taken advantage of by adversarial non-state actors.”
He, however promised that the military would wade in if the Police couldn’t contain the security situation.
“All the Army is doing at this stage is to monitor the situation as it unfolds and be on standby in the event of any escalation that could threaten the security of the state and the region in general,” he added.
The Police Force, Kano Command earlier revealed that it had received credible information about miscreants trying to unleash terror at locations, particularly the House of Assembly and other key places within the state.
