The Nigerian Army has made history by promoting Hajara Egbunu to the rank of Army Warrant Officer, making her the first female soldier from the elite Infantry Corps to achieve this prestigious rank.

The decoration ceremony took place in Abuja on January 3, 2025, and was led by Brigadier General Mathias Amatso, Commander of the Nigerian Army Women’s Command (NAWC).

In her acceptance speech, Egbunu expressed deep gratitude to God and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, for his visionary leadership and support in facilitating her career advancement.

She also acknowledged Brigadier General Amatso’s guidance, which had been instrumental in her role as the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the Command.

The event concluded on a celebratory note with a group photograph and light refreshments, marking a significant step forward for gender inclusion in the Nigerian Army.
