The Aláàfin of Ọ̀yọ́, Oba AbdulAkeem Owoade, has commenced the traditional rites required before his ascension to the throne.
The rites, known as “Òrò Ìpẹ̀bí,” began on Friday, March 7, 2025, and will last for 21 days, concluding on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

- Purpose of the Rites: The Òrò Ìpẹ̀bí is a mandatory tradition for the incoming Aláàfin, symbolizing a deep connection to past rulers and the divine responsibilities of the throne. It involves absolute seclusion and various ceremonial practices.
- Curfew Imposed: As part of the rites, a curfew has been declared in Ọ̀yọ́ town from 10:00 PM to 4:30 AM daily throughout the 21-day period. Movement during these hours is strictly prohibited, and violators will be detained until 7:00 AM the following day.
- Statement from the Palace: The Chief of Staff to the monarch, Mr. Rotimi Osuntola, emphasized the importance of respecting the tradition, stating that the Òrò Ìpẹ̀bí is sacrosanct and must be observed by all residents of Ọ̀yọ́.
- Coronation Date: Following the completion of the rites, the coronation ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in Ọ̀yọ́ town.
