In a significant development, Afe Babalola, the renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has agreed to withdraw his defamation case against human rights lawyer and activist Dele Fárótìmí.
This decision came after the intervention of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and other prominent monarchs.
The case, which had garnered widespread attention, involved allegations of defamation made by Babalola against Fárótìmí over statements in his book, “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.”
The book critiqued Nigeria’s legal system and included claims that Babalola found damaging to his reputation.
Following the intervention of the Ooni and other monarchs, Babalola decided to drop the lawsuit, emphasizing the importance of unity and reconciliation.
This move has been praised by many as a step towards fostering peace and understanding within the legal community.
