Governor Adémọ́lá Adélékè of Ọ̀ṣun State has intervened in the case of a young man sentenced to death by hanging for stealing a fowl.
The governor directed the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to initiate processes to grant the prerogative of mercy to the young man.
This decision came after the case went viral on social media, prompting public outcry.
Governor Adélékè emphasized the importance of justice and equity, stating that Ọ̀ṣun State must ensure fairness and the protection of the sanctity of lives. He assured the public that the matter is receiving his direct attention and that a sense of urgency is attached to the response.
In addition to this case, Governor Adélékè has also pardoned other convicts as part of his commitment to justice and fairness in the state.
