Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has publicly apologized for a statement he made in 2021, where he claimed that those who do not pay tithe would not make it to heaven.
In his recent address, he expressed regret, stating, “I am going to be apologizing for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, that’s not in the Bible.” He clarified that the Bible teaches, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God,” emphasizing that salvation is not tied to tithing.
However, Pastor Adeboye went on to suggest that while 10% tithe is often seen as the standard, it should be considered a starting point. He encouraged members of the church to give more generously, saying, “It’ll be wrong to limit you to 10%, at a time some of you should be [paying] 20%, 30%, 40%. 10% should be for beginners.”
This message has sparked discussions on tithing and generosity within Christian communities.
