16 Nigerian Soldiers Hacked to Death in Delta

Sixteen Nigerian soldiers have been killed on a peace mission to halt clashes between Okuoma and Okoloba communities in Delta State.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Army Spokesperson said the troops from the 181 Amphibious Battalion deployed in the Bomadi region, had responded to a call on the conflict in the Okuoma community before they were killed on Thursday.

“They were surrounded by some community youths and killed,” according to Gusau.

“The reinforcement team led by the commanding officer was also attacked, leading to the death of the commanding officer, two majors, one captain and 12 soldiers,” he said.

Speaking further, Gusau disclosed that the Chief of Defence Staff has also directed an immediate investigation and the arrest of anyone involved in the dastardly act.

“So far, a few arrests have been made while steps [are] in place to unravel the motive behind the attack,” he added.
