Over 150 people have been rescued, while many remain missing after a boat carrying about 300 passengers capsized in Niger State.
The passengers, mainly women and children, were traveling to the Maulid celebration in Gbajibo, Mokwa Local Government Area.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Hussaini Ibrahim, who said the accident occurred on the River Niger, upstream of the Jebba dam, as the boat was en route from Mundi Community.
NSEMA, in collaboration with the state’s Ministry of Transport, the Mokwa Local Government Emergency Committee, local divers, and community volunteers, is coordinating search and rescue efforts.
