Scholarship Details:
The Masters’ scholarships are awarded by the University Council, upon the recommendation of the Senate, to candidates in the first year of their thesis research for a Master’s degree, which serves as entry to the Ph.D. course at the University of Otago. Doctoral and Masters’ scholarships are awarded based on the following criteria:
Academic Record:
- For applicants with a completed Master’s degree by papers and thesis (at least 0.75 EFTS), consideration will be given to the grades of all relevant advanced-level papers contributing to the degree and the thesis. If the thesis took more than 2 EFTS (2 full-time years) to complete, an explanation of the duration may be requested and evaluated by the Scholarships and Prizes Committee.
- For applicants without a Master’s degree, including a thesis, consideration will be given to the grades of all relevant advanced-level papers contributing to the applicant’s most relevant degree.
- For applicants with prior qualifications from other universities, the University will calculate a GPA score using the most relevant papers and grades provided on the applicant’s academic transcripts. Certificates of Proficiency and Pass/Fail papers will not be considered in the calculation.
Potential for or Record of Research:
Evaluation of the applicant’s potential for, or record of, research will be taken into account.
Advice, Recommendation, and/or Ranking of the Relevant Head of Department.
Eligibility for Doctoral and Masters’ Scholarships:
- Doctoral and Master’s scholarships are open to Domestic Fee-Paying Students only, unless otherwise stated.
