A recent report has highlighted the potential negative impact of wearing tight boxers or pants on a man’s sperm quality.
Fertility experts have advised men to avoid tight-fitting underwear, warning that it could raise the temperature around the testicle region and affect sperm production.
The report, based on a study conducted by researchers at Harvard University, found that men who wore boxer shorts had a 25% higher sperm concentration, 17% higher total sperm count, and 33% more swimming sperm in a single ejaculate compared to men who wore tighter underwear.
The study involved 656 men who provided semen and blood samples and answered a questionnaire about their underwear preferences.
The researchers also measured the levels of reproductive hormones in the men’s blood and found that those who wore tight underwear had higher levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which stimulates sperm production. This suggests that the brain produces more FSH to compensate for the difficulty in sperm production caused by increased scrotal temperatures.
Fertility specialists have emphasized the importance of early diagnosis for poor sperm quality, as it could help patients receive early treatment. They also noted that other factors, such as smoking, alcohol intake, and the use of certain drugs, can affect sperm quality and quantity.
